The Concessionaire, CRG Waterford, with 33.3% owned by Iridium, commenced operation of the N25 Waterford Bypass on the 19th of October. The main part of the works, executed by a consortium, in which Dragados has a 50% participation, is the new 465-metre cable-stayed bridge, which is the longest bridge in Ireland, over the River Suir where it passes through Waterford. Moreover, the overall works include 23.1 kilometres of motorway, 14 kilometres of highway, two junctions at different levels and 60 structures. Operations are carried out from a toll trunk station that implements ?tag? technology as the payment system.
The project was financed with a non-recourse loan contributed by the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, Banco Santander Central Hispano and the European Investment Bank.
The recently inaugurated bypass resolves Waterford?s serious traffic congestion problem caused by the 40,000 vehicles that daily cross the Suir Bridge.
